Our Natural Materials
Olivewood
It comes (as you can guess) form the olive tree. A symbol of peace, it has been and still is an integral part of Greek history and culture. Throughout the centuries, the olive tree continues to support the livelihoods of the locals by producing olives and the nutritious olive oil. To our family however the olive tree offers more than its fruit. The wood with its vividly stunning grain and density turns into objects of unparallel beauty and uniqueness in the expert hands of Aristotelis.
Beach Pebbles
Our pebbles come from local beaches around Katakolo, Greece. Combing the beach for the perfect pebble is always an enjoyable activity. Looking for “heads” or “legs” or “feet” (pebbles for our frames) always makes us laugh. We try to select the most colorful, smooth and uniquely patterned pebbles.
Our Process
Crafting Olivewood
We collect our olivewood during the olives picking season. During this picking process the tree gets pruned down in order to fruit for the next year. The wood we use comes from the cut down pieces, some of them being quite big. Very rarely an olive tree maybe get cut down, as it is allowed by permission from authorities. In that case we are fortunate to get our hands on some really wide pieces of wood that will produce Salad Bowls and large Cutting Boards. We then carefully season our wood, allowing it to dry naturally for at least two years. Every piece of wood is carefully selected for its vivid grain and size in order to meet our high quality standard. The process continues by working on every item individually allowing it to further dry during the manufacturing process. From start to finish an item may take up to 6 months to complete. A slow process ensures that the finished item will retain all of its high qualities for a long term use so that you will enjoy our products for many years
